# Vercel Speed Insights Installation Report

## Overview
Successfully installed and configured Vercel Speed Insights for the Medicare Enrollment Dashboard project.

## Changes Made

### 1. Package Installation
- Installed `@vercel/speed-insights` version 2.0.0
- Package added to dependencies in `package.json`
- `package-lock.json` updated with new dependency tree

### 2. Code Integration
**Modified: `dashboard/src/main.jsx`**
- Added import: `import { injectSpeedInsights } from '@vercel/speed-insights'`
- Called `injectSpeedInsights()` before rendering the React app
- Follows Vite/Other Frameworks pattern from official Vercel documentation

## Implementation Details

### Framework Detection
The project uses:
- **Framework**: Vite + React (not Next.js)
- **Package Manager**: npm (detected from package-lock.json)
- **Build Tool**: Vite 8.0.10

### Integration Pattern
According to the official Vercel Speed Insights documentation (fetched on 2026-05-20), for Vite projects, the recommended pattern is to use `injectSpeedInsights()` in the main entry file. This was implemented in `src/main.jsx` before the React app is mounted.

This differs from React-only projects where you'd use the `<SpeedInsights />` component. The `injectSpeedInsights()` function is the correct approach for Vite-based applications.

## Verification

### Build Verification ✓
- Successfully built the project with `npm run build`
- No compilation errors or warnings
- Output bundle generated correctly in `dist/` directory

### Testing Notes
- No test suite configured in package.json (no test script available)
- Linter configuration exists but has dependency issues (unrelated to our changes)
- Build success confirms no TypeScript/JavaScript errors introduced

## Files Modified
1. `dashboard/package.json` - Added @vercel/speed-insights dependency
2. `dashboard/package-lock.json` - Updated with new package dependencies
3. `dashboard/src/main.jsx` - Added Speed Insights initialization

## Next Steps
Once deployed to Vercel:
1. Speed Insights will automatically start collecting performance metrics
2. Data will be visible in the Vercel dashboard under Speed Insights section
3. The tracking script will be injected at `/_vercel/speed-insights/*` routes
4. No additional configuration required

## Notes
- The project already has `@vercel/analytics` installed and configured in App.jsx
- Speed Insights complements Analytics by providing Core Web Vitals and performance data
- Both packages work seamlessly together without conflicts
